Help & how-to
PixelConvert is a free image converter that runs entirely in your browser. Below are the steps for the most common tasks.
Quick start
- Open the home page and go to the converter.
- Drag & drop your images onto the dropzone, or click to choose files (you can also paste with Ctrl + V).
- Pick the output format under Convert to - JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF or ICO.
- For photos keep the quality between 85-92. PNG, BMP, TIFF and ICO are lossless.
- Click Convert. Each file gets a Download button, or use Download all (ZIP) to get everything at once.
HEIC to JPG (iPhone photos)
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, which older Windows and Android apps cannot open. Here is how to convert them:
- Add your HEIC/HEIF files (up to 60 at a time).
- Choose JPG and set the quality to about 90.
- Click Convert - every photo becomes a
.jpgand the orientation (portrait/landscape) is preserved.
HEIC files are decoded with libheif (WebAssembly), which is loaded the first time you need it. After that it comes from the browser cache instantly.
Install the website as an app
PixelConvert is a PWA (Progressive Web App). Once installed you get an icon on your device, the app opens fullscreen and it also works offline - no Play Store and no installer needed.
Windows / Mac (Chrome, Edge)
- Click the Install app button in the header, or
- Click the install icon (⊕) on the right side of the address bar, or
- Menu (⋮) → Install PixelConvert / Apps → Install this site as an app
Android (Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet)
- You will see an Install app button - tap it, or
- Menu (⋮) → Add to Home screen / Install app
- An icon appears on your home screen and the app opens fullscreen.
iPhone / iPad (Safari)
- Tap the Share button (square with an arrow)
- Choose Add to Home Screen → Add
- The PixelConvert icon appears on your home screen.
Note: on iPhone, PWA installation only works from Safari (not from Chrome on iOS).
Supported formats
- Input: HEIC, HEIF, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, ICO
- Output: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO (multi-size favicon)
- Every output format works in all modern browsers - if the browser has no native encoder, a WebAssembly encoder is used instead.
Privacy
Your files never leave your device - decoding and encoding both happen in the browser. See the privacy policy for details.
Troubleshooting
- HEIC did not convert: check your internet connection (libheif is loaded from a CDN the first time) and try again.
- AVIF or WebP is slow the first time: the WebAssembly encoder has to load once, after that it is fast.
- A large file was skipped: the limit is 40 MB per file and up to 60 files at a time.
- A very large image was skipped: images above 80 megapixels are not processed, so the browser stays responsive.
- The install button does not appear: the page must be on HTTPS (or localhost). On iPhone/iPad, add the site to the home screen manually.
